Governor

Hello, my name is Darren McAughtrie and I am a local authority governor. I work for a Southend Borough Council in the Children & Learning Department as the Group Manager responsible for Commissioning. This includes performance management, strategic commissioning, commissioning & quality of children’s centres & early years settings and supporting the work of the Children’s Partnership, in particular the development of the Southend Children & Young people’s Plan and co-ordinating work to reduce child poverty across the Borough.

I am passionate about children's services and strongly believe that every child and young person deserves the best start in life to enable then to grow into well rounded adults who can play an active role in society. I think that communities have a responsibility to ensure children and young people who need support to achieve this get the support they need, whether this be with their health, education, well-being, leisure or care.
